This workshop offers an overview of Australian Indigenous Art, beginning with Aboriginal rock carvings, body paintings and ground designs, and ending with the most recent developments in new media. We will look at the relationship between Aboriginal art and culture and the cultural differences that exist between different tribes, languages, dialects and geographic landscapes. We will also cover issues to do with copyright and appropriation and how Aboriginal art fits within the current art market.
Expected learning outcomes:
Presenter Ashlee Lala completed a Masters of Art Curatorship at the University of Melbourne in 2016 and during that time became fascinated by Australian Indigenous art and culture.
