In this crafting session, the children will learn about sunshine silhouette dyeing. Then they'll turn their dyed fabric into beeswax wraps.
Beeswax Wraps with a difference! We'll create our own dyed fabric, then turn this into beeswax wraps.
Silhouette dye is used in Rarotonga. This traditional craft is used when the sun is hottest. We place leaves or objects on fabric which has been saturated by dye and leave this lying in the sun to work. Objects will block sun and make lighter imprints. Then we then saturate wraps in beeswax (with a few other ingredients, pine resin, jojoba) so they're hygenic and easy to use. Beeswax wraps are a great alternative to cling film. You clean them then use them over and over.
Your drink bottle and a snack. All materials are included within this course fee and you'll leave with your own big and small wrap at the end of the workshop. Wear OLD CLOTHES - there could be dye splashes.
