The purpose of this course is for applicants to understand the NZ Citizenship requirements, to practise for the interview, and to be able to communicate a genuine commitment to NZ. Please note: This is not an immigration course. Minimum Intermediate Level English.

    COURSE DATES 2021

    Each course runs for eight week with classes on Tuesdays 7 - 9 PM. No courses are scheduled yet for 2021. Express your interest and we'll set up a course when there is sufficient demand.


    ABOUT THE COURSE

    The NZ Citizenship Interview Preparation course is designed for students who already have  a minimum of Intermediate English or higher language ability.

    The purpose of this course is for applicants to understand NZ Citizenship requirements, practise for the interview, and to be able to communicate a genuine commitment to NZ. Prepare for the interview with typical and unusual questions, and demystify the process. Practise your personalised answers and prove your English ability and commitment to NZ. Learn more about NZ, NZ slang, Maori words, and the National Anthem in English and Te Reo Maori.

    COURSE OUTLINE

    • Difference between residency and citizenship
    • 'Presence in NZ' requirements
    • English language requirements
    • Sample questions and answers
    • Quizzes
    • Learning some NZ slang
    • Learning some Maori words and phrases
    • The ceremonial process
    • Learning the National Anthem in Maori and English

    EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

    • Students will have an understanding of the NZ Citizenship requirements and processes
    • Students will be able to demonstrate awareness about NZ and NZ culture
    • Students will be able of English language requirements
    • Students will have practises sample questions and answers typical of the interview process

    Maximum class size 12 students.


    WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

    1. Those with a minimum of pre-intermediate level English  and
    2. Who are applying for NZ citizenship within 3-6 months.

    COURSE FEES

    NZ citizens and permanent migrants: $35 including materials.  This course fee is subsidised by the Tertiary Education Commission and conditions apply.

    Temporary migrants: $135 including materials. If you are awarded a residency visa during the course, please let us know. You may qualify for a fee rebate on your current course

    Refugees may qualify for a fully subsidised course fee. Please contact the office for more information.

    TERTIARY EDUCATION COMMISSION FEE SUBSIDY

    This applies to New Zealand citizens, permanent migrants and refugees

    The Tertiary Education Commission offers a fee subsidy for this course to qualifying students.

    NZ citizens, permanent migrants and refugees who are offered a place on this course will be offered the fee subsidy PROVIDING you can agree to the following conditions:

    • you promise to attend the full term (eight weeks)
    • you promise to attend at least 80% of classes
    • you prove your right to reside permanently in New Zealand through presentation of your passport or refugee papers before starting your course.

    If you are unable to agree to all these conditions, please contact the office to discuss your situation.


    COURSE BOOKS

    All photocopying is included in the course fee. There are no prescribed text books for this course.


    IMMIGRATION STATUS

    Permanent migrant: student holds NZ Resident Visa or NZ Permanent Resident Visa

    Temporary migrant: student holds Guardian Visa, Work Visa, Student Visa, Visitor Visa or other visas

    Refugee: student has been personally granted refugee status in NZ
