For those who have completed our Woodworking for Beginners, this Next Step course will advance your skills through making a bedside table.
You've already completed our Woodworking for Beginners course and you're keen to build on those skills! In this Next Step course, Konrard will teach you additional woodworking skills whilst you make your own bedside table.
The creation of this bedside table requires far greater precision in measurements, cutting, drilling and assembly (than the stool). After Konrard's demonstration of processes, you'll be expected to undertake more of the work yourself, gaining increased confidence and ability with both hand and machine tools. Konrard will also expand teaching on care and use of tools.
You will need to bring your own materials on the second week of the course. In the first class, Konrard will give you instructions on what to bring and how to source appropriate lumber and supplies. The cost of the wood will be approximately $120. We'll supply some screws, drawers bases and other oddments.
The dimensions of the bedside table are 700mm tall, top 460mm side to side, 350 front to back, 18mm deep. The top overhangs the carcass by 30mm on each side and the front, and 20mm at the back. The legs are 42mm - 20mm square and 682mm tall. The dimensions of the carcass (assembled and excluding the top) are 400mm wide, 300mm deep and 682mm high. Unfortunately there is no scope to make variations to these dimensions. We anticipate that the 16-hour course will enable you to complete your table ready for finishing (varnish or painting). You'll then be able to take your table home and add your own touch with paint or varnish after the course. You do have an option with the style of legs: you can choose to make either straight or tapered legs.
