You may have heard of the placebo effect but did you know it has an evil twin, the nocebo effect? This talk discusses research on the placebo and nocebo effect and how we can be the victims of these phenomena with medicine branding.
Kate MacKrill is an Intern Psychologist at the Department of Psychological Medicine, University of Auckland and is preparing to submit her thesis for a PhD in health psychology. Her research has examined how the nocebo effect can occur when the brand of a person’s medicine changes. She has also investigated the role the media can play in side effect reporting.
