    Description

    Creative non-fiction blends the best scene and character description technique with true stories to keep the reader engaged. Come and learn the secrets in a supportive environment.

    In the course, you will learn the building blocks of successful non-fiction books, with lessons focusing on scene and character description, how and where to add important detail, and how to put it all together in a way that keeps the reader engaged.

    Sessions will include writing time to put lessons into practice.

    Who should attend?

    This course is designed for the new to intermediate writer. The techniques can be applied to a wide array of non-fiction writing.

    Expected learning outcomes

    • Students will understand how to write an engaging scene that draws the reader in to a story.
    • Students will be able to describe characters in a way that builds a picture in the mind of the reader.
    • Students will know where and how to introduce critical detail (the facts of a story) in a way that doesn't lose the reader's interest.
    • Students will understand the structure of a good non-fiction book and be able to implement it for themselves.

    What to bring

    Laptop or pen and paper for the writing portion of the session.
