    Description

Use basic crochet and knitting techniques to create fun sculptural “yarn graffiti” and “tree tags” to brighten up your home and neighbourhood.

We'll create an installation to decorate trees at the school. At a later time, the wool will be reused to create peggy squares for charity.

    Expected learning outcomes

    • Design a yarn graffiti item (2 or 3 dimensional) to contribute to the group installation at the venue
    • How to source materials and ways to recycle yarn
    • Use basic knitting and crochet techniques to create the elements needed and assemble the item as a group
    • Safely install the yarn graffiti

    Course outline

    Saturday:

    • Introductions
    • Course overview

    • Materials - suitability, sourcing, tools
    • Basic crochet and knitting techniques

    Sunday:

    • Finishing, assembling and embellishing the yarn item
    • Installation of graffiti

    What to bring

Any crochet hooks or knitting needles, scissors, left over or recycled wood ( smaller quantities and any colours are ideal ). Deb will bring a few to the class that you can borrow if you don't have anything. Bring scissors. Suggestions for sourcing wool - sales bins at yarn or craft shops, op shops, recycling centres, ask your friends for any odd balls or partials they have lying around waiting to be used. 2-6 balls is ideal but we'll make do with whatever we have.  Acrylic wool is good - more durable and brighter colours.  But any fibres or size OK.  Bring your lunch each day.

    Who should attend this course?

Anybody interested in knitting, crochet and “soft sculpture”. Basic knowledge of crochet and knitting helpful though not essential.
