    Description

Using your sewing machine you will learn to create your own pieces of sculptural embroidery including designs of found specimens and eventually your own incredible flower bowl.

You will use your sewing machine to act as a drawing tool to create your own unique piece of sculptural embroidery. You will learn how to do freehand machine embroidery onto woven fabrics, learn how to draw designs from found specimens, and to transfer those designs onto water-soluble fabric. You will learn how to sculpt and refine your designs into incredible flower bowls. Over the two days you will be able to take home finished pieces of textile art.

    Course outline

    • Learning how to set up your sewing machine for freehand machine embroidery.
    • The different types of embroidery threads to use and when to use them.
    • Learning how to sew onto woven fabrics through practical exercises.

    About your tutor

I am a textile artist and I specialise in sculptural embroidery.  I use my sewing machine as a tool to draw my designs onto soluble fabric to create one of a kind 3-dimensional artworks each with an emphasis on NZ’s fauna and flora. I love to inspire others on the creative journey of learning to use their sewing machines in different ways and inspiring them to create their own unique designs.
