    Description

Gillian Elmslie has been sculpting for over 25 years and holds regular workshops around the country and in her own studio in Auckland. Come with ideas, sketches or just be inspired on the day. Gillian always manages to draw creativity from participants to develop their own design.

    Materials included

Your course fee includes a soft stone block approximately 250mm wide x 100mm deep and 400mm tall. As sculpting blocks must be prepared ahead of time, we are unable to accept enrolments on the day of the course. Last day for online enrolment is the Friday morning prior to course commencing. After this time, you can contact the office to see whether spaces are still available.

What to bring to Soft Stone Sculpture

Bring small sharp knife (just a cheap supermarket knife or an old paring knife will be perfect) and an old spoon. These will not be fit for using indoors again after sculpting.  Bring a cardboard box or piece of cardboard for bringing your sculpture home in the car. Bring your lunch and definitely bring a water bottle as carving is thirsty, dusty work. Tea and coffee will be provided in the staffroom when you need to take a break.

    What to wear

Rubber gloves and old clothes. The stone contains cement which is harsh on your hands.

    What you'll get

Your own sculpture (see the picture below for examples from another course). The recipe for making further stone blocks. Gillian's tips and tricks for successfully creating your own sculptures at home.
