Join Sahar and during this seven week course you'll learn how to create a variety of selected mains, meze and desserts. Sahar, of Iraqi birth, has lived and worked as a cook in many countries, learning many cuisines and food customs on her journeys. She values cooking delicious meals as a way to honour her family and guests, and wishes to share this approach with you. She shares her knowledge through a combination of hands-on and demonstration teaching. You'll get to taste the delicious foods you prepare each night and take home any leftovers.
Turkish cuisine is influenced historically by Central Asian, Middle Eastern, Eastern European and Balkan cuisines. Different regions in Turkey offer cuisine variations, partly due to those regions' promixity to other countries, and partly due to the food resources available in those regions. For example, food in Istanbul includes wide use of rice and vegetables and tends to be lightly spiced. In the Black Sea region, fish is prominent as well as maize. In south eastern Turkey, well-known dishes such as kebabs, meze and baklava are traditionally prepared. Sahar will share a wide range of recipes representative of Turkey.
A tea towel and container for leftovers. Apron optional. The course fee includes ingredients ($20) for the first night only. Sahar will tell you what ingredients to bring for the remaining classes.
