Next Steps Course Saturday 16 June 10am - 12:30pm.
Come find out how easy it is to make your own lampshades. We'll be making a 9" (23cm) diameter straight-sided, round lampshade, 23cm deep. All you need to bring is .5m of fabric.
You don't need any sewing or interior decorating experience and you'll leave with a unique handmade lampshade to add some pizzazz to your home or offfice.
How to choose a fabric:
Light background prints work best for lampshades as they allow the light to come through best. A printed fabric is better for beginners than a plain, as it is less likely to show any imperfections of crafting. Stripes and plaids are not suitable for beginners due to the difficulty of matching the pattern.
Ideal fabrics include closely woven medium-weight linen, curtain-weight cottons or linens, and quilting cottons or linens. Unsuitable fabrics include silks, polyester silk-style curtaining, loosely-woven fabrics, and treated polyester or acrylic canvas (deck chair/awning fabrics) so please give them a miss.
You will be taken through every stage of the process, and you will leave with a completed shade. At the end of the course you will also have acquired the skills to make your own lampshade independently from a kit.
Course fee includes $40.50 lampshade kit. The tutor will provide tools to use on the day.
