Beat boredom this school holiday while doing something meaningful in our brand new 5-day programme to inspire and engage kids 8 - 12 years. GetReal provides fun ways for kids to understand relevant social topics and enjoy making positive change in the world and in the lives of others.
Note that in order to create the best experience, the number of participants will be kept to 12 kids. To achieve this, and to keep the programme affordable for families, the programme fee has been subsidized by the GetReal organisation and its sponsors. For more information contact GetReal at email: email@example.com or via their website www.getreal.nz
Today's programme will kick off with an inspirational talk from Fletcher Sunde of Sustainable Coastlines. Fletcher describes himself as a motivator, ideas man, surfer, diver and marine ecologist. He'll talk about the Love Your Coast programme which addresses the issue of ocean plastics and what we can do to help stem the tide.
Following Fletcher's talk, teacher Natasha Bagley will work with the children in the sewing room constructing items from the homeless people of Auckland CBD. In the morning they will be making durable waterproof tote bags and in the afternoon they'll upcycle blankets into cosy ponchos. They'll share lunch with Katz and Greg who currently sleep rough and hear about the challenges of not having regular shelter. At the end of the day they will have completed two items to be donated to people of need.

Each day - from Monday through Thursday will focus on a different topic (see below for details). Friday's activities will bring it all together, helping kids to reflect and decide on ways they can continue taking positive action and supporting causes that are important to them.
The programme runs from 8 - 12 October from 9 AM to 4 PM daily. Places are limited, so book early. Enrolment for individual days is permitted. However, preference will be given to those attending the whole week. The Friday workshop is only suitable for those who have attended at least one other day Monday to Thursday.
