Beat boredom this school holidays while doing something empowering in our 2-day programme to inspire and help children understand this country’s culture and indigenous perspectives.
Each day participants will get to make their own poi (ball-on-string), learn kapahaka (performing arts) skills, tītītorea (stick games), and other traditional games of Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Parents & Caregivers are welcome to watch a final performance at 4pm on the last day.
Poi
Make your own poi to take home. Perform waiata. Understand poi for traditional training of warriors.
Tītītōrea
Stick games teach teamwork, hand-eye co-ordination, multi-tasking.
Haka
Learn an ancient call to arms and war dance.
Kapa Haka
Learn the skills of performing kapa haka. Perform as a group for our families. Show and recite the stories we have learned.
Waiata
Learn singing skills and perform songs with actions.
Course fee includes materials.
Your lunch each day. A water bottle. Bring a rain jacket as we'll spend a little time outside.
Children 7 - 12 years who can follow instructions well and participate in games with others. Children should have reasonable fine motor skills for poi-making.
