Learn how to create your own design and pattern. Start from scratch with your basic measurements or use your own draft if you have one. Or bring a favourite garment from your wardrobe as inspiration, a picture of a garment you would like to make, or a pattern you would like to adjust.
During this class students work with paper (supplied) and tracing violene (you can buy your own or purchase from the teacher at $2/m). An average pattern will use 2-5 metres of violene depending on the pattern and size.
Students will feel confident starting from scratch creating a new pattern for a simple garment, or adapting an existing pattern to fit the student. It is not expected that students will create an entire garment from drafting to completion during this class as the emphasis is on developing and cutting the pattern, rather than finishing the garment. Students can use their patterns to make up trial designs using cheap fabric or something you already have. If you wish, you can sew these together at home. It is up to the individual whether they make up their garment after the fit is finalised, but this sewing is usually done as homework due to time constraints.
Students should already have basic sewing skills and basic knowledge of garment construction.
