English IELTS Writing Night

    Home English IELTS Writing Night

    This course is suitable for students planning to take either the General or the Academic IELTS examination. The teacher will provide teaching for both. This course is free for some students (see below) or a course fee of $95 will apply. Students should have a minimum of upper intermediate level English to join this course.

    Description

    About the course Writing Skills for IELTS

    IELTS is all about strategies. 1. Think, 2. Plan, 3. Write. Learn how to maximise your essay writing skills using thesis statements, topic sentences, supporting statements, paragraphs.  Learn how to extract information from graphs, tables, diagrams.  Learn how to summarise and compare.

    Learn how to plan your essay by using brainstorming, clustering, free writing.

    This course is designed for Upper Intermediate and Advanced level English students who are preparing for the IELTS test.


    2025 course dates

    Classes run on Tuesday evenings 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM over eight weeks starting:

    • Term 1 - 11 February
    • Term 2 - 29 April
    • Term 3 - 22 July
    • Term 4 - 7 October

    This course is scheduled to allow students to attend courses from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM in addition to this specialist writing class.


    Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) course fee subsidy 

    This course offers a course fee subsidy through funding from the TEC for:  

    • NZ citizens;
    • Those who hold a residency-class visa;
    • Individuals granted refugee status;
    • In some cases spouses of NZ citizens and permanent migrants may also qualify - please contact the office to enquire. 

    Conditions:

    • Registrants must be aged 16 years or older.
    • Registrants must not be currently enrolled at a secondary school.
    • You need to attend at least 80% of your classes to qualify for a fee subsidy.
    • We need to collect extra information such as age, ethnicity, educational achievement and gender for statistical purposes.
    • You must provide evidence of NZ citizenship, residency or refugee status.

    If you are unable to meet these conditions, please contact the office to discuss your situation.


    Course fee

    Qualifying learners: Free.  This course fee is subsidised by the TEC and conditions apply.

    Temporary migrants: $95. If you are awarded a resident visa while you are studying with us, please let us know. You may qualify for a fee rebate on your current course.
