Kia ora Selwyn Community Education team,
I am writing to express my appreciation for the course Speaking With Confidence Level 2 with Elizabeth Drayton. I have lost count of how many times I have done level 2, and I'm keen to do it again and again. This course has helped me enormously, I have a new job because of the skills I learned in this course. I had another job interview last week, I didn't get the job but the interview was excellent and I was told I was a strong applicant. I have never felt so prepared and confident in interviews, and I know it's because of Speaking With Confidence Level 2. I also did two presentations last week for around 80 people at North Shore Hospital and was impressed that, for the first time in my life, I didn't have the usual physiological reactions I had when speaking for big and professional audiences (sweating, shaking, voice failure, nervousness). Today I had an incident in a class discussion that reminded me of how important it is to keep developing the skills Elizabeth facilitates. I am keen to come back, not sure if the next term or the other, but I'll definitely keep coming at least one term per year. This course is a million bucks gem!Kind regards, JuliaIn my first years of university, public speaking was my greatest weakness. If I learned a presentation was required, I would do everything possible to avoid it, and when I couldn’t avoid it, I would dread the assessment for weeks. This had a significant impact on my academic wellbeing, and my grades suffered as a result. Finding Liz’s courses was a turning point for me. They strike the perfect balance between learning the theory and having the opportunity to practise it. Liz has an exceptional depth of knowledge in public speaking and effective communication; what truly sets her apart is her ability to teach these skills in a way that is accessible and impactful for every student who enters her classroom. In my most recent semester, I presented a project to a class of around 100 students. Instead of fear or dread, I felt prepared and excited. I delivered a fantastic presentation, scoring 95% in the assessment and finishing the course among the highest marks. This simply would not have been possible without Liz’s guidance. In fact, had I known this course required a presentation prior to taking her classes, I would not have enrolled at all.Liz is an exceptional teacher who has made a profound difference in my life. I cannot recommend her highly enough. Charlie
