    Description

    2026 course dates

    Classes run Monday afternoons 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM over eight weeks, for a total of 12 hours tuition. Courses start:

    • Term 1 - 9 February
    • Term 2 - 4 May
    • Term 3 - 27 July
    • Term 4 - 12 October

    About the course

    This course is for those with English as as second language, helping improve your spoken communication skills, so you can live more comfortably in New Zealand.  Your tutor provides a safe, supportivie environment where you can practice speaking English on useful, relevant topics.  

    • Learn idiomatic language and how to use it in context
    • Learn colloquial New Zealand English and slang
    • Talk about topics related to life in NZ
    • Improve your fluency and pronunciation
    • Learn pronunciation of place names in NZ
    • Share your ideas on topics and your culture with others

    Average size is 12 - 15 students.


     Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) fee subsidy

     This course offers a course fee subsidy through funding from the TEC for:  

    • NZ citizens;
    • Those holding a residency-class visa (permanent migrants);
    • Those granted refugee status;
    • In some cases, spouses of NZ citizens and permanent migrants may also qualify - please contact the office to enquire.

     Conditions:

    • Registrants must be aged 16 years or more.
    • Registrants must not be currently enrolled at a secondary school.
    • You should attend at least 80% of your classes to qualify for a fee subsidy.
    • We need to collect extra information such as age, ethnicity, educational achievement and gender for statistical purposes.
    • You must provide evidence of NZ citizenship, residency or refugee status. 

     If you are unable to meet these conditions, please contact the office to discuss your situation.  


    Course fees

    Qualifying learners: $15  - funded by the TEC. See the conditions above.

    All others: $160. If you are awarded a resident visa while you are studying with us, please let us know. You may qualify for a fee rebate on your current course
