    Description

Join Liz Mitchell, one of New Zealand’s leading bespoke couture designers, for an inspiring one-day workshop exploring the art of wet felting. Under Liz’s expert guidance, you’ll create a personalised textile piece using soap, water, fibre, and agitation to transform fabric scraps into something entirely new.

Discover the creative possibilities of fibre art in this hands-on workshop, with Liz Mitchell one of NZ’s leading fashion designers, that blends off-loom weaving with introductory wet-felting techniques. Using rubber tile mats as your weaving base, you’ll combine yarns, wool rovings, and fabric off-cuts to construct a richly textured woven piece.

You’ll also learn how to prepare and work with pre-felt, using it as a supportive foundation that allows your woven materials to bind, blend, and transform through the wet-felting process. As you experiment with colour, texture, and fibre interactions, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how recycled and leftover materials can be repurposed into beautiful, sustainable textile artworks.

By the end of the course, you’ll leave with a unique finished piece and the confidence to continue exploring these innovative techniques at home.  All materials are included in your fee.

    About your tutor

Liz Mitchell MNZM is New Zealand’s leading bespoke fashion designer. Her love of wool has extended from fashion into the development of homewares using New Zealand strong wool. Felting is the oldest textile-making technique in the world, utilising just wool, soap, and water. As a strong advocate for sustainability and NZ strong wool, Liz has been exploring the processes of both wet felting and needle felting, using wool as her medium.

The passion Liz has for the different ways in which wool could be utilised has seen her create beautiful items that are approachable for everyday use. This includes a collection of pet pods and vessels, rugs, wall hangings, lightshades and living fleeces.
