    Discover Greek locations steeped in history and mythology as we travel (metaphorically!) around the Greek mainland and islands, discovering the events that shaped a great civilization. We will admire the ruins of impressive temples, the art that remains, and cover the culture that still influences Western ideology today.

    Description

    Course Outline

     

    Session 1: Crete and the Greek Islands
    We will cover Minoan civilization, the palace at Knossos, and
    the beginning of Greek language and culture as we know it.

    Session 2: Athens (part 1)
    From the dark ages to the Hellenistic period, Athens has
    influenced Western culture, religions, and beliefs. We will
    look at the important historical locations in Athens and their
    influence.

    Session 3: Athens (part 2)
    Continuing on from session 2, we will discover the art, drama,
    important people, and religion of Athens in the Classical
    period.

    Session 4: Beyond Athens
    In this session we will be covering the mythology, history, and
    importance of other parts of Greece: Delphi, Mycenae,
    Olympia.

     

    Who should attend?

    Those interested in travelling to Greece, those who want an
    overview of ancient Greek history and culture, and those who
    are interested in history, psychology, drama, and art
