My family immigrated to New Zealand from Taiwan in 1995. I attended and completed the teaching training programme at Auckland University. I initially worked as a part-time Chinese teacher and then has become a NZ registered teacher.
Since year 2000 I have been teaching Chinese Mandarin at primary, intermediate and secondary schools in New Zealand. For the secondary school teaching, in 2014 I started teaching at Onehunga High School as a Mandarin teacher. In mid-2015, I was employed by Takapuna Grammar School (TGS) as an IB (International Baccalaureate) Chinese teacher. Over those nine years at TGS the Chinese language programme has been extended from year 9 to year 13. I was especially pleased that four of my students received NZQA Chinese Scholarship awards in 2024.
Starting from January 2025, I became a TIC(Teacher in charge) Chinese teacher at Epsom Girls Grammar School. I have taught six classes from year 9 to year 13. These classes are classified as “Second Language Learners”. The administrative workload as a TIC has been a challenging, but also an opportunity for me to enhance and expand my knowledge base.
I am married, have two adult daughters and one granddaughter.
