Taine Williams

    Home Taine Williams

    A passionate advocate for te reo Māori, tikanga Māori, and te taiao, he brings together years of reo study, cultural leadership, and hands-on conservation work across Aotearoa.
    Te Reo Māori Teaching
    As Co-Chair of Te Tauaki Puāwai at the Ministry for Primary Industries, he helps grow Māori capability across the organisation.

    In this role he:
    *Teaches waiata, karakia, and introductory te reo Māori to staff across multiple regions
    * Leads tikanga Māori during events including mihi, pōwhiri, and cultural workshops
    * Organises noho marae and wānanga that bring people together to learn and practise te reo
    * Mentors colleagues beginning their reo journey

    He is known for his warm, encouraging teaching style and his ability to make complex language concepts clear, practical, and enjoyable to learn.

    Te Reo Study

    * Pīnakitanga ki te Reo Kairangi (Level 7) — Te Wānanga o Aotearoa (2025)
    * Aupikitanga ki te Reo Kairangi (Level 6) - Te Wānanga o Aotearoa (2023)
    * NCEA Levels 3–6 Te Reo Māori — Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi

    Conservation & Professional Experience
    Alongside his reo journey, he has worked in conservation and biosecurity roles across Aotearoa, including with the Ministry for Primary Industries, BioSense, Auckland Council, and the Department of Conservation.

    This experience grounds his teaching in a deep respect for te ao Māori and the natural world, bringing real-world perspective and authenticity to his reo practice.

    He has spent the past six years immersed in learning and sharing te reo Māori, studying through Te Wānanga o Aotearoa and Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi while actively supporting others on their reo journey.
