Intuitive Watercolour Practices is about letting go of the pressure to make a "good painting" and building a creative habit that feels natural to you. Watercolour is fluid, unpredictable and forgiving, so it suits play, curiosity and getting lost in the process.
You'll explore a range of simple, adaptable practices: loose colour play, mindful mark-making, responding to mood and memory, and quick exercises you can fit into ten spare minutes or a slow Sunday afternoon. Along the way you'll learn the watercolour basics (washes, layering, wet-into-wet and letting the paint do the work), always as tools for expression rather than rules to follow.
You'll leave with more than a few finished pieces. You'll have a personal toolkit of creative practices you can come back to whenever you need to unwind, reconnect or simply make something, and they'll keep working for you as your life changes.
No experience needed. You just need to be curious and willing to see where the paint takes you.
Week One: Curiosity
Colour, Circles, and Blobs! We’ll explore why you’re here, what you’re needing from an intuitive watercolour practice. Then we’ll begin practicing those intentions in a fun, meditative way – exploring the paints with circles and blobs.
Week Two: Calm
Patchwork and Patterns! Using a mindful watercolour practice, we’ll build patchwork shapes on a page, stitching them together with paint. You’ll leave with a quilt of sorts, and something you can keep working on for as long as it takes to find calm.
Week Three: Control
Landscapes and Mindscapes! Creating your own watercolour worlds is a great way to feel a sense of control when the world around you feel out-of-control. We’ll do this a couple different ways, timed and untimed, and then you can work on a landscape for your mind.
Week Four: Balance
Building your intentions with watercolour rocks! An introspective week where we paint piles of rocks for values we aspire to and emotions we want to acknowledge.
Week Five: Nostalgia
Memories and Moments! We’ll learn mindful ways to paint when we’re missing someone or something – whether that brings happy thoughts or sad ones. You can bring photos that represent that feeling while the paint and page hold space for you. This can be for reminiscing about a happy childhood memory, or maybe even for a grief you’re holding.
Week Six: Presence
Here and now! We’ll learn intuitive practices for painting wherever you are, wherever you go. You can do this many ways, and I’ll show you a few before we make a final chart for your future intuitive watercolour practice.
Beginners, anyone wishing to set aside some time for something creative.
