    About Lampshade Making

Join Claire in this fun workshop learning to make your very own stunning straight sided drum lampshade in one short and easy session only. You will be taken through every stage of the process, acquiring new skills making an (approximately) 35cm diameter shade suitable for a table lamp, pendant or small floor lamp with standard fittings. No sewing skills required. The tutor will provide all tools required to use on the day and the price includes everything needed except your fabric. Please bring along 0.5m of fabric (width 1.2m to 1.4m) of your choice to go around the circumference of your shade. See the important information below on choosing fabric.

A small number of fabrics will be available to choose from for anyone who forgets to bring their own. These cut pieces will be approximately $10-15 to purchase on the day (cash only).

    What to bring

Half a metre of fabric (between 1.2m and 1.4m wide). See notes below to choose appropriate fabrics. Bring an apron or painting smock to use while gluing.

    How to choose a fabric

A printed fabric is better for beginners than a plain, as it is less likely to show any imperfections of crafting. Stripes and plaids are not suitable for beginners due to the difficulty of matching the pattern. Ideal fabrics include closely woven medium-weight linen, curtain-weight cottons or linens, and quilting cottons or linens. Unsuitable fabrics include silks, polyester silk-style curtaining, loosely-woven fabrics, and treated polyester or acrylic canvas (deck chair/awning fabrics) so please don't choose these.
