    COURSE DATES 2023

    Each course runs for 8 weeks with classes on Tuesdays 7 - 9 PM.

    1. Term 1 starts 21 February (delayed due to Cyclone impact)
    2. Term 2 starts 2 May
    3. Term 3 starts 25 July
    4. Term 4 starts 10 October

    ABOUT THE COURSE

    The English for Business course is designed for students who already have Upper Intermediate or Advanced English language ability.

    Improve your workplace communication skills.  Increase your accuracy and confidence in using English for such tasks as:

    • Speaking in meetings, negotiating and compromising, leading a team and solving problems, or making a presentation; 
    • Listening to Kiwi English at work, understanding complex requests, taking accurate notes, and obtaining clarification;
    • Writing business letters and emails, a New Zealand style job-application, a press release or a formal report;
    • Reading and analysing NZ business news, graphs or data tables, progress reports, marketing material or job advertisements;
    • Vocabulary development for a variety of commercial and marketing purposes.

    You are welcome to attend for two consecutive terms (16 weeks) of English for Business, as most lessons will be different.

    Maximum class size 16 students. Average class size 12 students.


    COURSE FEES

    NZ citizens and permanent migrants: $15 including materials.  This course fee is subsidised by the Tertiary Education Commission and conditions apply.

    Temporary migrants: $160 including materials. If you are awarded a residency visa while you are studying with us, please let us know. You may qualify for a fee rebate on your current course

    Refugees may qualify for a fully subsidised course fee. Please contact the office for more information.

    TERTIARY EDUCATION COMMISSION FEE SUBSIDY

    This applies to New Zealand citizens, permanent migrants and refugees

    The Tertiary Education Commission offers a fee subsidy for this course to qualifying students.

    NZ citizens, permanent migrants and refugees who are offered a place on this course will be offered the fee subsidy PROVIDING you can agree to the following conditions:

    • you promise to attend the full term (eight weeks)
    • you promise to attend at least 80% of classes
    • you prove your right to reside permanently in New Zealand through presentation of your passport or refugee papers before starting your course.

    If you are unable to agree to all these conditions, please contact the office to discuss your situation.

    NOTE: This course offers a course fee subsidy through funding from the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) for NZ citizen and permanent migrant adults, their partners on work visas or visitor visas, and refugees. To qualify, registrants should be over the age of 16 years and not currently enrolled in a secondary school. We need to collect extra information such as age, ethnicity, educational achievement and gender for statistical purposes. You must also provide evidence of NZ citizenship, residency or refugee status if requested. A condition of accepting a course fee subsidy is that you commit to at least 80% attendance of your course.


    COURSE BOOKS

    All photocopying is included in the course fee. There are no prescribed text books for this course.


    IMMIGRATION STATUS

    Permanent migrant: student holds NZ Resident Visa or NZ Permanent Resident Visa.

    Temporary migrant: student holds Guardian Visa, Work Visa, Student Visa, Visitor Visa or other visas.

    Refugee: student has been personally granted refugee status in NZ.

    Prerequisites

    Upper Intermediate level of English required as a minimum entry level.
