Description
Join our patient sewing teacher, Karen, and learn the basics of laying out, cutting, assembling and sewing simple garments - a hat and tote. Karen will supply the patterns and they are yours to keep to produce more at home (they make great gifts).
You will need to bring fabric and thread as below:
- 1.5 m of fabric. Cottons, duck or drill is best. You can use a one-way design, but it is best to avoid plaids and stripes for beginners. (Slippery/stretchy/heavy fabrics, and stripes/plaids are for more experienced sewists.)
- PREPARATION: it is essential to prewash and dry your fabric before the course
- Bring 1 roll of matching thread, or in a contrasting colour if you prefer
If possible, bring your own sewing machine. Otherwise you can use one of the school Berninas. The sewing room is fully equipped with all equipment, but it is handy to have your own kit comprising:
- Fabric scissors
- Tape measure
- Snips
- Pins
- Unpicker
What to bring
As well as your materials and kit, bring your lunch and drink bottle each day. The cost of the patterns is included within the course fee.
