Beat boredom this school holidays while doing something meaningful in our 5-day programme to inspire and engage children 8 - 12 years. Get Real provides fun ways for children to understand relevant social topics and enjoy making positive changes in the world and in the lives of others.
Please note this workshop is held at St Andrew's Retirement Village, Glendowie.
Today's cause: Valuing our tūpuna.
Today's programme will kick off with an inspirational talk (speaker to be confirmed).
Following this inspirational talk and morning tea, art therapist Julia West will guide the children having fun and making friends with a group of residents from St Andrew's with the intention of creating a piece of art to be presented to an individual resident at the end of the day. The process will be facilitated by Julia who will help the children talk to the residents about their lives, their history, their passions and their families. Each child will be partnered with a resident and they will learn to use their interviewing and investigating skills and to turn their discoveries into art works which will be presented to their partners at the end of the day.
This programme is a collaboration between Selwyn Community Education and GetReal (for more information contact GetReal at email: nz.getreal@gmail.com or via their website www.getreal.org.nz)
