Description

As well as working with ink and watercolour we will also spend some time making pencil drawings which are the basis for all good artwork. For this we will do studies from ‘live’ objects to sharpen our observations to create good outlines and graduation of tone to achieve a three-dimensional effect. From this we can then proceed to working with ink, and watercolour washes and details.

Expected learning outcomes

• Drawing with both pencil and ink pen - gradation of tone, blending etc.
• Watercolour techniques - wet on dry and wet on wet, and use of dry brush
• Masking
• Combining watercolour with ink pen
• Learning about your art materials - paper, brushes
• Drawing from live subjects - e.g fruit, objects.

Course outline

• drawing with a pen to learn to see shape, value and edge
• learning about your art materials
• watercolour technique - wet in wet, dry brushing
• developing line style
• continuous line drawing and wash
• watercolour technique - negative painting, masking
• texturing paintings

Your lunch. We'll provide tea and coffee and all materials for this course (a materials charge is included within this course fee).

Who should attend this course?

Beginners or those with a little experience with painting who want to try a different medium.
