Learn the basics of this exquisite embroidery technique using beads and sequins.
Introduction to Tambour Embroidery covers the basic techniques employed in Tambour, including forming the stitch and applying beads and sequins.
Unlike other forms of embroidery, Tambour is worked with a small hook instead of a needle. This technique is favoured amongst couture houses and costumiers from screen to stage, and once you’ve mastered the basic stitch the opportunities to explore embellishment are virtually endless!
There is a maximum ten students for this course.
During this course, we’ll cover the mechanics of forming the basic stitch, adding beads and sequins, and a few of the more common ways to employ the technique.
We’ll also discuss some common techniques used to transfer designs to fabric, and Kat will share some tips on how to approach designing and constructing Tambour Embroidery projects.
Anyone who loves embroidery, crochet and knitting, sewing, or really handcraft of any kind!
Bring your lunch as we'll take a break. We'll provide tea and coffee. All materials are provided for this course.
Kat learned Tambour Embroidery in 2018, and her first project featuring the technique was her wedding dress. Since then, she has continued to create garment-focused Tambour work as well as historical sampling and recreations.
