    Want to capture the world around you using the magical world of watercolour? Learning both traditional and experimental techniques, we’ll learn how to paint simple landscapes (mountains, coasts, bush, gardens, streams) from the masters. By the end of the course, you will be beginning to paint atmospheric landscapes that are meaningful to you, and have gained some experience using watercolour.

    Description

    Want to capture the world around you using the magical world of watercolour? Learning both traditional and experimental techniques, we’ll learn how to paint simple landscapes (mountains, coasts, bush, gardens, streams) from the masters. By the end of the course, you will be beginning to paint atmospheric landscapes that are meaningful to you, and have gained some experience using watercolour.

    Course outline

    • Masters and Materials: Welcome, Art materials, Master Artists in Landscape, Ways to Approach Landscape Watercolour, Colour Mixing for Landscape, Wet Your Brush: Landscape Warm-Ups
    • Perspective: Mountains and Valleys
    • Colour: Gardens and Coasts
    • Light and Dark: Pastoral Scenes and Streams

    Expected learning outcomes

    • Mix and adjust natural colours and hues – perfect for any scene.
    • Learn skills to paint a wide range of landscape scenes – from coasts, meadows, gardens, bush, and mountains.
    • Develop your own style of landscape by learning both traditional and contemporary landscape techniques.
    • Our final project will be to paint a landscape of a place that is meaningful to you.  

    Who should attend?

    Beginners with a basic colour wheel knowledge.

    What to bring

    All materials are supplied. For weekend workshops, bring your lunch.

    About your tutor, Ashley

    Ashley Ruth Stirling lives and breathes art, taking her travel-size watercolour supplies with her everywhere she goes - no exaggeration! She has developed her own unique style of watercolour and illustration and creates art every day.  A gifted teacher, she will guide you through the creative process in an enabling and encouraging manner so therapeutic you won't want class to end. For Ashley Ruth, landscapes are endlessly fascinating, ever-changing, and beautifully diverse. She looks forward to delving into how to capture the beauty of landscape with the freedom of watercolour.
