    Description

Mosaicking is a therapeutic art form that fosters mental well-being by encouraging mindful focus, creativity, and a sense of accomplishment. The process of arranging small pieces into a cohesive design offers a hands-on, meditative experience that reduces stress and anxiety. It teaches patience, resilience, and allows for personal reflection, symbolising the transformation of broken pieces into something whole. Whether done individually or in a group, mosaicking provides a soothing, tactile outlet for expression, contributing to emotional healing and overall mental health.

It also supports recycling and sustainability by giving new life to discarded materials, promoting environmental stewardship, and reducing waste.

    The course project

In this workshop we will mosaic, using a variety of different tesserae (broken vintage porcelain, glass and ceramic tiles). You will be able to express yourself using materials you are most drawn to. All materials are provided, and you will go home with a completed small tile which could be a practical coaster or a decorative keepsake item. To fit with the short time frame, Jo will teach this course using thick glue as a method for applying tesserae to the tile which creates a self-grouting effect.
