    Description

    This course utilises established methods in drawing a convincing head. We will cover the main proportions of the large forms as well as the features. The lessons learned from this workshop can be applied to approaching portraits or creating fictional characters. We will look at the ideas of the head as a rounded form as well as a planar form and progress from a front view and side view to the three-quarters and other tilts.

    Expected learning outcomes

    • Learn the basic structure of the head and then how to refine it
    • Learn how to fit the features into the head
    • Understand the effect of perspective on the head
    • Learn some of the established models for drawing

    Course outline

    • The head as an oval shape
    • The Loomis method of constructing a three dimensional form of the head onto the two dimensional plane
    • Front view, side view, three quarter view
    • The all important proportions and location of the features

    What to bring

    Your lunch - we will take a break during the day. Tea and coffee will be provided in the staffroom for breaks. All materials are provided within the course fee ($15).

    Who should attend?

    Anyone keen on being able to convincingly draw people from imagination or from real people. Some previous drawing skills are beneficial.

    About your tutor

    I am a practicing artist represented by Foenander Galleries. My usual practice is oil painting which explores city scenes and figures in the urban setting, I have a keen interest in colour theory and teach a number of courses. Sound drawing is an essential element of my painting.
