    This Intro to Amigurumi Crochet Course is perfect for those who are looking for their next step in the crochet journey by learning specific stitches and techniques to improve their amigurumi projects.

    Description

    This course is most suitable for those that have completed the four-week Crochet Beginners course or are confident with completing the following:

    • Slip knots
    • Slip stitches
    • Chains
    • Single crochets
    • Half double crochets
    • Double crochets, plus beginner to easy techniques.

    Materials

    Your tutor will provide patterns and some materials ($30 value). Participants should bring the following:

    • Crochet hooks – varying sizes (recommended minimum 3.5mm, 4mm and 7mm hooks) 
    • Cotton yarn in at least two contrasting colours.
    • Chenille blanket polyester yarn – 2 contrasting colours.  One colour should be light (like white/cream) and one darker (brown/grey).
    • Black embroidery thread
    • Yarn – DK/8ply weight – 1 main colour, white and black.
    • Stitch markers
    • Yarn needle
    • Scissors
    • Notebook and pencil/pen
    • Positive Attitude 🙂

    Expected learning outcomes

    1. Learn crochet techniques to improve your amigurumi projects
    2. Learn to work with different yarn types and how they affect your overall project
    3. Learn advanced joining techniques for shaping and stuffing techniques
    4. Complete three projects including amigurumi balls, cat bun and cat with legs.

    Course outline

    Session 1:

    • Magic ring/loop
    • Yarn under vs yarn over
    • Increasing
    • Decreasing
    • Stacking/staggering
    • Simple ball amigurumi pattern

    Session 2:

    • Cat bun project
    • Working with plushie yarn pros/cons
    • Common challenges working with plushie yarn and how to account for them
    • Magic ring with plushie yarn
    • Working with larger hooks
    • Identifying stitches
    • Simple colour change
    • Adding extra elements (like wire)

    Session 3:

    • Complete cat bun pattern
    • No sew elements
    • Sewing on elements
    • Stuffing
    • Weaving in ends with plushie yarn
    • Make a start on project 3

    Session 4:

    • Adjusting a pattern to fit your preferences
    • Joining two elements to create legs
    • Practice colour change
    • Complete ears, nose, arms
    • Sewing on other elements
    • If there is time, some facial elements

    About your tutor, Amber

    Your instructor Amber has been crocheting for 28 years and is a certified instructor with the Craft Yarn Council and American Crochet Association. Crochet has become more popular over the years and is one of the easiest crafts to pick up with only needing a hook, a skein of yarn and a pair of scissors to start.
