    Description

Join us for this practical workshop to learn about sustainability – what it is (and isn’t) and the concepts involved. Put together a simple plan for yourself and/or a small business that prioritises the areas and activities where you’ll have most sustainable impact. Share ideas, decide what you’ll do, set goals and targets and enlist support to turn your plan into action.

    Expected learning outcomes

    • Understand what ‘being more sustainable’ means. (It’s not just about the environment!)
    • Understand important sustainability concepts like systems thinking, carbon accounting and circular economy
    • Be able to prioritise the areas and activities where you’ll have most sustainable impact (without causing other problems!)
    • Have a simple plan (for yourself and/or a small business) that brings these activities together so you can take sustainable action

    What to bring

Your lunch. We'll supply tea and coffee. Bring either pen and paper or your laptop to record your plan.

    About your tutor

Kate Thompson has eight years’ experience in environmental and social sustainability. As Head of Communications for a large trans-Tasman sustainability consultancy, she communicated complex sustainability concepts and helped clients in many industries explain their sustainability plans and progress. Kate’s experience includes leading Auckland Airport’s award-winning social sustainability strategy and helping the Infrastructure Sustainability Council launch a new Green Building rating.

Kate teaches this practical course because she wants to help everyone understand how they can make our world more sustainable. (She also knows that sustainability can seem like a ‘dark art’ and enjoys helping demystify it!)
