    Description

    Parents play a crucial role in shaping their children's career aspirations, confidence and decisions. Parents as Career Influencersis a transformative course designed for parents of young teenagers, offering practical strategies and insights on how to be a constructive, positive influence in their child's career thinking.

    This two-session course blends personal reflection and interactive discussions to help parents understand how to support their teen's evolving career interests, explore various pathways, and foster a healthy, growth-oriented mindset toward their future. The course is restricted to 10 participants to allow strong one-to-one guidance.

    Throughout the course, participants will:

    • Gain deeper insight into the factors that influence a teen’s confidence and readiness to make career or study decisions and move out into the world of work or further study
    • Learn how to initiate and nurture career-related conversations with their teenager
    • Explore ways to help their teen build essential skills, develop self-awareness, and make informed career decisions
    • Identify and address common challenges parents face when guiding their teen’s career exploration
    • Create a supportive environment that encourages healthy career learning steps

    This course is not only about knowing what to do but also about empowering parents to confidently engage with their teen's career journey in a way that aligns with their values, aspirations, and long-term well-being. Whether you're looking to provide clarity, encouragement, or just a listening ear, Parents as Career Influencers will equip you with the tools to make a lasting impact on your child's clarity about who they are and what they want to be involved with after college.

    Expected learning outcomes

    • You will understand the developmental psychology of career thinking and the journey your teenager is on
    • You will explore your concerns about your teen’s career outcomes and gain some strategies for dealing with them
    • You will build a communication approach when talking with them about their career decisions so that they will grow a sense of agency and self-awareness
    • You will learn about the future of work and how a different approach is needed now

    Course outline

    • We will cover the developmental psychology of teens and the way they think and experience life – and the journey of developing a career identity
    • We will focus on our concerns, and where they come from and we will explore strategies that will be helpful
    • We will cover communication techniques and ways to approach career conversations with your teen
    • We will gain an understanding the future of work and how best to support your teen to prepare for it

    Workbooks will be provided as part of your course fee.

    Who should attend?

    Any parent of a student aged 13 - 17 years.

    About your tutor

    Brigitte is a Career Clarity Coach, helping teens and young adults (17–30ish) who feel stuck, lost or overwhelmed, create their early careers on-purpose.

    After a long career in healthcare and parenting community work, Brigitte took a job in Careers & Gateway at a high school, instantly falling in love with careers work. Gaining a qualification as a Career Development Practitioner, she now runs her own private practice specialising in Gen Z / young adult career clarity coaching. 

    As a parent of young adult children, Brigitte knows from personal experience how stressful career conversations and decisions can be, both for young people, their parents and the wider family, especially in today’s fast-changing job market.
