    Description

In this course, we will learn about the fundamentals of Cubism - one of the most influential art movements of the 20th century. We will examine the works of pioneers like Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, and you will be encouraged to develop your own Cubist-style drawings and paintings on paper.

Through guided discussion, visual analysis, and studio time, you’ll gain insight into how Cubist artists deconstructed form, challenged perspective, and reimagined the way we see the world. You'll then apply these concepts directly by creating your own Cubist-inspired drawings and paintings on paper.

Whether you're a beginner or a practicing artist curious about modernist styles, this course will provide both a strong theoretical foundation and the creative space to experiment.

    Expected learning outcomes

    • A clear understanding of Cubism’s history, evolution, and key techniques
    • Explored your own artistic voice through a Cubist lens
    • Created at least 2–3 completed artworks on paper

All materials will be provided—just bring your curiosity and creativity!

    What to bring

Your lunch. A painting smock or apron if you wish to protect your clothes. We'll provide tea and coffee in the staffroom. A materials charge is included within your course fee and all materials are provided.
