In this relaxed two and a half hour workshop, you’ll learn the art of creating kokedama—a beautiful Japanese style of bonsai where a plant’s roots are wrapped in a moss-covered soil ball and tied with string to form a striking living sculpture
Meaning “moss ball,” kokedama offers a unique, natural, and completely plastic-free alternative to traditional pots.
This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in flowers, and learning new techniques for decorating with flowers, or perhaps those considering training for a career in the floristry industry.
Guided step-by-step, you’ll discover how to prepare the soil mixture, form and wrap the moss ball, bind it securely with twine, and style your kokedama for display. Whether you choose an indoor plant, fern, succulent, or tropical species, you’ll create a sustainable, biodegradable piece that brings a sense of calm and greenery to any space.
You’ll leave the class with your own handcrafted kokedama and the knowledge to make more at home - perfect for gifts, décor, or expanding your plant-loving creativity.
All materials ($40) are provided within your course fee. A basket or other receptacle may be helpful for transporting your creation home. You may wish to wear an apron to protect your clothing.
