Capture the personality of your favourite companion in this relaxed, hands-on day. Bring a photo of your dog, cat, horse, bird or any other animal you love, and go home with a finished portrait.
You’ll start with pencil, learning to see your pet’s shapes and proportions and to sketch the eyes, ears and nose with confidence. Next, you will use a range of materials includng paints and pastels to build fur texture, markings and that all-important sparkle in the eye. In the afternoon, you’ll bring it all together in acrylics, learning simple techniques for layering colour, blending tones, and painting realistic fur.
Our tutor will guide you step by step, with plenty of one-on-one help along the way. You don’t need any experience, and confident artists will pick up new tips too.
You’ll leave with a pencil study, a pastel sketch and an acrylic portrait. They make a lovely keepsake or a gift for an animal lover.
All materials are supplied
Two or three clear, well-lit printed photos of your pet, ideally close-ups showing their face and eyes. Front on and side on .To capture a photo that gives an artist the perfect perspective, you need to get down to your pet's eye level. Taking photos from a standing position distorts their proportions, making their head look massive and their legs look tiny. "Eye-level perspective" or "Straight-on shot" are the best and ensures head-to-body ratio is natural and displaced by lens distortion.
Materials are Included in the course fee Please bring lunch.
