About the course
This course is suitable for Upper Intermediate to Advanced students wanting to take the Academic or General test. Improve your fluency, accuracy and general workplace communication skills to increase your confidence in the English-speaking work-place.
This course is for those students who plan to sit their IELTS examination within three months. This intensive and structured course will help you:
- Learn the English you need for academic study in New Zealand.
- Practise tasks and questions similar to those found in the IELTS examination.
- Develop overall proficiency by practising reading, writing, speaking and listening.
- Build a vocabulary specific to the IELTS examination.
Maximum class size 15 students. Average class size 12 students.
Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) fee subsidy
This course offers a course fee subsidy through funding from the TEC for:
- NZ citizens;
- Those who hold a residency-class visa;
- Individuals granted refugee status;
- In some cases spouses of NZ citizens and permanent migrants may also qualify - please contact the office to enquire.
Conditions:
- Registrants must be aged 16 years or older.
- Registrants must not be currently enrolled at a secondary school.
- You should attend at least 80% of your classes to qualify for a fee subsidy.
- We need to collect extra information such as age, ethnicity, educational achievement and gender for statistical purposes.
- You must provide evidence of NZ citizenship, residency or refugee status.
If you are unable to meet these conditions, please contact the office to discuss your situation.

Qualifying learners: $42 plus course book $55. This is subsidised by the TEC (see conditions above).
All others: $470 plus course book $55.
If you have refugee status, you may qualify for a free course. You will need to buy a course book. Please contact the office for more information.

To participate in this course, students must have a copy of Cambridge University Press Mindset for IELTS Student's Book 2. This book is available for sale at the office for $55 including GST.
An optional, but recommended, text book for this course is: Check Your English Vocabulary for IELTS 4th Edition (ISBN 978-1-4729-4737-6) . You can buy this for $30 including GST at the office.
