    Home Courses Microsoft Word – Beginners

    Learn or update your computer skills to produce attractive, structured letters and forms. Become adept at copying, cutting, pasting, editing and formatting text, tabs and leaders, tables and columns. Additional classes will be added when there is demand.

    Description

    NOTE: This course offers a course fee subsidy through funding from the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) for NZ citizen and permanent migrant adults, their partners on work visas or visitor visas, and refugees. To qualify, registrants should be over the age of 16 years and not currently enrolled in a secondary school. We need to collect extra information such as age, ethnicity, educational achievement and gender for statistical purposes. You must also provide evidence of NZ citizenship, residency or refugee status if requested. A condition of accepting a course fee subsidy is that you commit to at least 80% attendance of your course.

    About the course

    Particularly suitable for people who want to rejoin the work force and need to update their word processing skills.  In six classes the following topics are covered:-

    • Keying in text and editing using different formats, eg bold, italics, underscore etc.
    • Spellcheck
    • Cut, Copy and Paste
    • Alignment – left align, centre, right align and justify
    • Single and double line spacing
    • Setting left and right margins
    • Indenting paragraphs of text
    • Finding and replacing text
    • Headers and Footers
    • Intro to Clip Art and borders etc – designing menus
    • Tabs
    • Decimals tabs
    • Leader Dots
    • Tables – merging, splitting cells, inserting columns/rows and deleting, moving columns within a table and also sorting of table
    • Using a formula in tables to add up a column
    • Beginners correction signs and manuscript correction signs
    • Subscript and superscript characters
    • Strike through
    • Inserting page breaks into a document
    • Adding bullets or numbering etc
    • Watermarks
    • Layout of letters – fully blocked and open punctuation

    In the shorter one-day course, the following topics are covered:

    • The Quick Access Toolbar
    • Creating Folders to save documents in to
    • Keying in text and editing using different formats, eg bold, italics, underscore etc.
    • Spellcheck
    • Cut, Copy and Paste
    • Alignment – left align, centre, right align and justify
    • Single and double line spacing
    • Setting left and right margins
    • Finding and replacing text
    • Headers and Footers
    • Insertion of online pictures and borders – designing menus and advertisements
    • Leader Dots
    • Tables – merging, splitting cells, inserting columns/rows and deleting, moving columns within a table and also sorting of table
    • Using a formula in tables to add up a column
    • Inserting page breaks into a document
    • Adding bullets or numbering etc
    • Watermarks
    • Layout of business letters – fully blocked and open punctuation

    This course is taught on personal computers at Selwyn College. Students should have basic familiarity with a computer and windows to attend this course. Contact us if you would like information or advice about other computing courses.
