This course is for those completely new to Adobe Photoshop and offers an introduction to the key concepts of Photoshop and how to digitally manipulate images. The objective of this course is to give participants a basic understanding of Photoshop and the potential that Photoshop offers. Strong general computer skills are needed. This course offers a course fee subsidy through funding from the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) for NZ citizen and permanent migrant adults, their partners on work visas or visitor visas, and refugees. To qualify, registrants should be over the age of 16 years and not currently enrolled in a secondary school. We need to collect extra information such as age, ethnicity, educational achievement and gender for statistical purposes. You must also provide evidence of NZ citizenship, residency or refugee status if requested. A condition of accepting a course fee subsidy is that you commit to at least 80% attendance of your course. The subsidised course fee is $60.
Available for both Windows and Mac, Adobe Photoshop is an extremely powerful application that's used by many professional photographers and designers. You can use Photoshop for almost any kind of image editing, such as touching up photos, creating high-quality graphics, and much, much more. This course is an introduction to the basic functions of Photoshop for those with no prior experience of Photoshop and will be taught in one of the college's computer suites using Windows/PCs with Adobe Cloud 19 (most recent update to 2022 version).
Classes include preparing a project, sorting using the selection tools, introduction to layers, extracting and combining images, concept of Colour, Greyscale, Dealing with Text and effects on texts. The tutor will provide images for students to work with.

Strong general computer skills required. This course is taught for those who are new to Photoshop. You should have access to Photoshop software to practise between classes. It may be possible to download a free short-term trial. See www.adobe.com. When attending the evening course, due to the intensity of learning in this course, we recommend you enrol only at a time when you can commit to attending all six classes.
The maximum number of participants for this course is 10. The course will be taught in a PC suite at Selwyn College.
This course is not suitable for those who can use Photoshop. We assume that participants have no knowledge of Photoshop and will teach to that level. Please contact the information for more information or for advice about whether this course is suitable for you.
