    Description

If you know the basic chords already and feel ready to take the next step on your ukulele journey, this is the course for you!

Grow your range of chords and strumming patterns on the ukulele with a range of fun songs.

We try to operate at a number of musical levels so that each person can make positive contributions towards the music and feels included. You will be expected to practise (a little) between classes.

This course is suitable for those who have completed an introductory ukulele course at Selwyn or elsewhere, and are now ready to make some progress.

    Testimonials

September 2020: "May I take this opportunity to say how much I am enjoying the ukulele lessons with Sonia! Sonia is such a fantastic teacher... she’s really patient with everyone, is able to adapt the material to suit everyone at the level they are at, gives such great tips and techniques for ways to improve and not beat ourselves up if it’s difficult or frustrating, always brings such a great selection of music to the class for us to learn, with just the right amount of challenge in each new song and opportunity to progress in each class. I am totally addicted! I love the whole process - learning a new instrument, being part of a community of like-minded friendly people, singing (attempting to!), challenging myself and most importantly, having fun! The ukulele is my new, uplifting passion!  Thank you once again for offering such a breadth of inspiring and awesome community education classes at Selwyn College. There really is something for everyone!" Keri

    From Sonia's 2019 course:

    • "I really liked the tutor – she cared for everyone – no one was left behind! Very good at explaining the pieces. The tutor is such a lovely singer."
    • "Was fantastic to do music together in a group. Exceeded my expectations. Learnt more chords + more songs than expected. Sonia was excellent – went at pace of all members – made sure we could all keep up."
    • "Enjoyed everything... The songs, the teaching. Teacher is organised and methodical. Really happy with Sonia. Fabulous teacher!!"
    • "Very good in all aspects. Good pace. Structured lessons. Enjoyable songs to play."
    • "Very clear teaching – gradual steps."

    From Anna's March 2015 course:

    • "I was concerned that I might not be able to keep up with this class but Anna took us through step by step and our skills developed. The class was fun and we had a lot of laughs".
    • "This class teaches you in easy stages but not so slowly that it is boring. We have such a great evening - brightens my day".
