    Description

NOTE: This course offers a course fee subsidy through funding from the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) for NZ citizen and permanent migrant adults, their partners on work visas, refugees, NZ citizen and permanent resident young people aged 16+ who are not currently enrolled in a secondary school. We need to collect extra information such as age, ethnicity, educational achievement and gender for statistical purposes. You must also provide evidence of NZ citizenship, residency or refugee status if requested. A condition of accepting a course fee subsidy is that you commit to at least 80% attendance of your course.

    About Excel Beginners

We aim to cover the top 15 functions you might need to advance your Excel skills, and the techniques you need to make them work harder; absolute and mixed cell references, nesting, using range names and Table ‘structured references’. These functions include:

    • IF in conjunction with ISBLANK and logical conjunctions such as AND and OR
    • Summary functions such as SUBTOTAL, SUMIF, COUNTIF, SUMIFS and COUNTIFS
    • Classic reference functions VLOOKUP with ISERROR and MATCH and INDEX
    • Understanding dates and date calculations including WORKDAYS and NETWORKDAYS
    • Using text in formulas including the CONCATENATE function

We also want to look at ways you manage data; using Tables effectively, Data Validation, conditional formatting, Power Query to edit and transform data, and Pivot Tables to analyse it. If there is demand we can introduce recording and running your own Macros although this is a huge topic in itself so we can likely only touch upon this.

    Who should attend?

A strong working knowledge of Excel formula writing and list management techniques is a prerequisite for attending this course.

Classes will be held in one of our school PC suites. Please bring a USB stick with you to class.

    Prerequisites
