Jo has always been a mud-larker and collected lost old shards of china and recycled broken pottery and old glass into mosaic art. Jo is inspired by the stories each little piece of broken plate or cup could tell, and where they have come from and enjoys making 'meaningful' mosaics. She tutors mosaic classes with an emphasis on recycling and re-making.
Jo exhibits her mosaic artwork and is an award winning artist, most recently winning the People's Choice award for her art-piece 'Smith and Caughey's Sale' (pictured below) at the Member's Arts Awards, Estuary Arts Centre in Orewa, 2025. She won a Merit Award for her mosaic piece 'A Cross Section of Rangitoto' in 2024. Jo was awarded Frist Prize in the 2D (two dimensional - wall-hanging) section at the NZ National Mosaic Exhibition 2022, for a mosaic map of The Whanganui River. Previously Jo also won first place in the 'Reflections of New Zealand' category of the National Mosaic Exhibtion in 2018 in Orewa, and a Merit Prize in the Hibiscus and Bays Arts Awards (Mairangi Bay, 2017).
