    Description

Continue your learning journey of Te Reo and Te Ao Māori.

    Your commitment

Learning a new language can be difficult and requires effort. Please enrol in this course only when you have the time resources to attend at least seven of the eight classes and to complete homework and practice. If you've already registered and you can no longer meet these obligations, please contact the office at least five days before the course starts and we'll do our best to transfer your registration to a future date.

    Our Te Reo pathway

    1. Te Reo Māori Introduction 1  - for total or relative beginners
    2. Te Reo Māori Introduction 2 - for those who have successfully completed our introductory 1 course
    3. Te Reo Māori Introduction 3 - for those who have successfully completed our first two courses

You are welcome to repeat any level if you wish to consolidate your learning before progressing.

    Eligibility for Course Fee Subsidy

This course offers a course fee subsidy through funding from the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) for NZ citizen and permanent migrant adults, their partners on work visas or visitor visas, and refugees. To qualify, registrants should be over the age of 16 years and not currently enrolled in a secondary school. We need to collect extra information such as age, ethnicity, educational achievement and gender for statistical purposes. You must also provide evidence of NZ citizenship, residency or refugee status if requested. A condition of accepting a course fee subsidy is that you commit to at least 80% attendance of your course. The subsidised course fee is $60.

    Zoom courses

Most courses are held face-to-face.  Occasionally, zoom courses are offered and these will be identified on the course page. Requirements for zoom courses: We recommend a device with a larger screen (i.e. not a phone), a microphone and a camera. Course materials will be emailed to you a few days before the course. You may wish to have these printed if you have access to only one screen.  We do not provide printed resources or course books for zoom classes.

    Zoom course etiquette:

    • your session should display your name for attendance marking (not a nom-de-plume or nickname)
    • please allow your tutor to see your face during the class
    • do not allow others to sit in on the sessions
    • do not record sessions or you may infringe the privacy of others on the course.

    Prerequisites

Have successfully attended Level 1 and Level 2 courses here at Selwyn Community Education. If you are new to Te Reo at Selwyn Community Education, or your attendance at previous courses was incomplete, please contact the office to discuss your situation.
