Tai Chi is meditation in motion. Come and learn a series of slow, continuous movements that will promote physical and mental well being, and improve your coordination and balance.
For total beginners and those with a little experience (less than one year): Tai Chi Elementary & Mindfulness
Tai Chi Elementary level teaches you the correct stances and movements that cultivate the flow of chi (energy) in your body. Teacher Bruno advises that most students practise at elementary level for a year or more. The focus is on developing the rounded and relaxed movements (steps) of tai chi with the correct posture. Once students can perform their steps accurately and as second-nature, the focus shifts to feeling chi in the body. Classes are available on Fridays at Orakei Community Centre, Saturdays at Selwyn College, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm at Selwyn College.
For those ready to progress beyond the elementary level: Tai Chi Level 2
In the second level of Tai Chi, the focus of learning is to develop an awareness of the balance between internal and external chi. Students may study at this level for several years before progressing. Tai Chi Level 2 is held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 6pm.
