Wednesday 24 November 2021. Good news finally. Selwyn Community Education can start running courses again, at weekends, from 4 December. As we are part of a school, all tutors and community education students must be vaccinated and wear masks to attend classes. Special cleaning protocols and physical distancing will also be used. Check out our website https://www.selwyncomed.school.nz/ and scroll to the bottom to see a list of courses coming up in date order. Or visit the 4-5 December or 11-12 December weekend categories.
Thursday 18 November 2021. All November courses are being cancelled. We are still awaiting confirmation from the Ministry of Education of an opening date – the new indicative date is 4 December.
We are beginning to publish our 2022 programme online so many courses are now visible and available for booking.
Our office is still closed as we are unable to welcome visitors to the school yet.
Wednesday 10 November 2021. We are now postponing courses until 19 November. We are optimistic that processes will be in place for us to open on a limited basis with appropriate covid-19 safety protocols, for the weekend 20 – 21 November 2021.
Friday 29 October 2021. We are postponing all courses until 7 November at present. The process is very time-consuming so please bear with us until we email your course group with options.
At this stage we are delaying any decisions on cancelling our weekend classes mid-November onwards until there is more clarity with the COVID situation.
When there is a change in the current restrictions, and we know we can adhere to all the appropriate protocols, we will proceed. This may mean postponing courses again. We are hopeful that we will have some news soon.
We have yet to finalise and implement all safety protocols but we can confirm these will include proof of vaccination for tutors and participants.
As soon as we have something to report, we’ll be in touch.
Stay well everyone. We are really looking forward to welcoming you back to the school when it is safe to do so.
Monday 18 October 2021. For courses starting 18 – 23 October. Most courses have now been postponed. We will action the final few courses today. We have started scheduling replacement classes for those missed in Term 3 due to lockdown. This process is time-consuming so please bear with us.
We are waiting for confirmation from the government when schools can open and classes can resume. These will be done with appropriate safety protocols in place. We are waiting for clear instructions from the Ministry of Health about how these will be applied (including vaccination status) and we will provide details as soon as we know.
Monday 11 October 2021. We are in the process of rescheduling term 4 courses and will be in touch once we have confirmed a new start date for your course.
Tuesday 28 September 2021. We are standing by to hear when Auckland is expected to enter Alert Level 2 so that we can resume paused classes. We are waiting to hear the government announcement next week, and as soon as we have a clear date to work to, we will start contacting customers with details.
As a school, we are able to run community education classes in Alert Level 2 as we have appropriate protocols in place (rigorous attendance registers, hygiene measures etc).
It is likely that many courses due to start in the week 18 October will have to be postponed a week or two whilst we complete Term 3 classes.
But at this stage it is an unknown and we are reluctant to make any changes just yet until we have certainty.
We will be in touch with all our patient customers as soon as we have clarity.
Tuesday 14 September 2021. As Alert Level 4 has been extended for Auckland, we are now postponing all courses due to run over the weekend 25 – 26 September.
Thursday 9 September 2021. All face-to-face courses 11 – 24 September have now been postponed and emails have been sent to students. We are waiting to hear the forecast for Alert Levels. As we operate within an Approved Educational Facility (Selwyn College) with stringent attendance monitoring and hygiene practises, we are able to operate in Alert Level 2. We are optimistic that paused classes can resume once we are within Alert Level 2. When we have clearer information, we will be in touch with all students with options.
Thursday 2 September 2021. Most courses for the weekend 11 – 12 September have been postponed to various dates later in the year. As those changes are made, they become visible on our website. We are making our way through the final courses today and tomorrow. Emails are sent to registrants as changes are finalised. We have also started postponing the courses for the 18 – 19 September weekend programme.
New Zoom course: Introduction to Contemporary Architecture starts on 14 September. Classes are 6:30 – 8:30pm via zoom over four Tuesdays. Click through here for a course outline and tutor bio and registration link.
We haven’t yet made decisions about resuming paused courses. Once we have a clear signal from the government for when Auckland will be in Alert Level 2 we will start planning and communicating to affected customers.
Tuesday 31 August 2021. We are in the process of rescheduling courses starting 1 – 20 September and will be in touch soon with new dates. Pending good news on negative trends with covid results, we are crossing our fingers that we will be able to resume halted courses around 27 September (best case scenario). Once the future is more certain, we’ll be in touch with all affected students to give updates.
New courses running via zoom: Introduction to Islam (started 30 August), Introduction to Contemporary Architecture (starting 7 September).
Friday 27 August 2021. All courses due to run over the weekend 28 – 29 August have been postponed. The majority of courses will run 30 – 31 October instead. We have emailed all registrants for all these courses with information. This includes writing courses.
Most Te Reo and other language courses are running via zoom until it is safe to return to the classroom. Where this is not happening, we have contacted students to advise that classes are postponed until it is safe to return to the classroom.
All other courses (in progress before lockdown) have been put on hold. We will resume classes when we can and will be in touch with you then to give options.
Evening classes due to start next week have been postponed or cancelled apart from Introduction to Islam which may run via zoom (the tutor will be in touch with registrants to gauge interest).
We have emailed registrants of all courses with updates, so if you can’t find a message from us in any of your mail folders, please let us know here: email info@selwyncomed.school.nz
10am Friday 20 August 2021. Many courses are now running via zoom. If this applies to your course, your teacher will have contacted you via email.
Other courses are postponed until the situation is clearer. We will advise dates for restarting courses once we have certainty.
Weekend courses including the Writer’s Weekend of 28 – 29 August will mostly be postponed a few weeks (or longer if necessary). We are assessing whether any can be offered via zoom and will be in touch to offer this option if it eventuates.
10am Wednesday 18 August: As Auckland is now in Alert Level 4, classes will be paused until further notice.
We hope we will be able to include these missed classes at the end of your course. A few classes will be delivered via ZOOM and your tutor will be in touch with you if that is happening with your course. Otherwise we will be emailing all class participants once there is a change in the Covid-19 Alert Level to let you know when classes will resume.
In the meantime, stay safe and we look forward to hosting you back at Selwyn Community Education soon.
We will be checking emails so please contact us on info@selwyncomed.school.nz if you have an urgent query. We ask for your patience in responding to emails.
