Botanical Drawing and Painting Weekend 7 – 8 November 2020

    By selwynadmin | News | 0 comment | 10 November, 2020 | 105

Before the invention of photography, botanical illustration was the only way of visually recording plant life. We depended on artists to share the details of botany with the public. Nowadays, botanical illustration is enjoyed as way of observing and appreciating the beauty and variety of the plant world. Artist and illustrator Sandra Morris recently taught a new group of aspiring botanical illustrators in our annual (and very popular) Botanical Drawing and Painting workshop. Students learned and practised stick and ink, stippling, colour pencil and watercolour techniques for illustration on the first day in the classroom at Selwyn Community Education. On Sunday, the group travelled to the Auckland Wintergardens for a field trip to practise their new skills. We’re always delighted and impressed by the quality of the work produced – Sandra breaks it down into learnable chunks, making the skills accessible to both new and more experienced artists. If you’d like to find out about future dates for this course, register your interest here.
